Very
articulate and outgoing, blue crowns are among the best talkers in
the Conure family. They are highly trainable, in fact a major
motion picture stars a blue crown Conure; look for the movie "Paulie".
These birds are also great imitators of their surroundings, and like
several other Conure species tend to copy the sound of their loved
ones laughter. They are very adept at making up cute games and
little sayings all on their own. It brings a smile to
everyone's face, especially since they use it with uncanny timing at
the darndest of moments! They are very affectionate and with
their macaw like personalities are one of our personal favorite
companion birds. To this day, my favorite pet bird I've ever had
was a blue crown.
Feeding requirements: About the same as other Conures, they
love plenty of fresh foods and
should be kept on a pelleted diet with seed as a treat. Give them a
water bottle in addition to their water dish, as they will generally
like to bathe in the dish, leaving nothing left to drink.
Housing requirements: Give them a big enough cage to keep
plenty of toys in. A variety of perches for climbing around is a
must. Ideally the cage should be 2 x18"x2' although bigger is
always better. Conure and small parrot size toys are essential,
make sure there is always at least one 'destructible' toy in there
for them to chew up. Conures love loops to climb through and swing
on, bells to ring, and bird tents or snugglers to cuddle up with.
